Pelosi is still on the ropes and the opposition is TBA. Across the proverbial pond, Ms. May may not be as lucky for her Party controls her life line. The Ascendant this week is 27 Gemini, has a nice springtime theme of seven blue birds moving to another tree and transition is the byword. Maybe this is a bad harbinger for the ladies in waiting? Votes are still be exchanged and berths offered; its too soon to tell.
The twelfth house though is rocking. The Ascendant at 27 Scorpio to start the week off, giving us the Hyperion Symbol of “the Fate of the Old King.” McClung writes that there is a bright strand in human affairs that accepts that which is handed down through culture and society. His keyword is tradition and that does seem to be problem with both Mme. Pelosi and May, no one likes the tradition that they represent.
The Moon is at 18 Cancer in the eighth house while the Sun is travelling jauntily in Sagittarius in the 12th. Technically the Grand Trine is at Poseidon at 14 Scorpio going to Neptune at 14 Pisces and back to Mother Moon, but that may import more about the weather than the emotions this week. Still, it does hint that there are some lessons to be learnt from all this fracas but Uranus in Aries opposite Venus in Libra seems to be blocking them from being realized. Saturn the point focus of that menage a trois recommends patience but then it’s in its own power struggle with the Moon as the two lords seem to be rather uptight and before you know it a Grand Cardinal Cross has materialized and everything is locked down waiting for more resources.
So this week we have bucket with a Moon handle, nostalgically reminding us that we are in Elvis’s own Memphis and Graceland, our header shot, is just down the street. Perhaps we can catch him croon Blue Moon over Kentucky when he, like us, was young & green.
Memphis is a port of entry and the largest city of Tennessee, U.S.A., and the county-seat of Shelby county, on the Mississippi river, in the S.W. corner of the state. Pop. (1860), 22,623; (1870), 40,226; (1880), 33,592; (1890), 64,495; (1900), 102,320, of whom 5110 were foreign-born and 49,910 were Negroes; (1910 census) 131,105.
It is served by the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific, the St Louis & San Francisco, the Illinois Central, the Southern, the Louisville & Nashville, the Nashville, Chattanooga & St Louis, the St Louis South-Western, the St Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern and the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley railways, and by steamboats on the Mississippi.
The river is spanned here by a cantilever railway bridge 1895 ft. long, completed in 1892. The city is finely situated on the fourth Chickasaw Bluffs, more than 40 ft. above high water; the streets are broad, well paved and pleasantly shaded; and a broad levee overlooks the river.
In Court Square, in the heart of the city, are many fine old trees and a bust of President Andrew Jackson who helped found the city. In 1909 Memphis had about 1000 acres of parks besides two race-courses. Memphis is the see of a Protestant Episcopal bishopric. The city is supplied with water from more than eighty artesian wells, having an average depth of about 400 ft.
Owing to its situation at the head of deep water navigation on the Mississippi, Memphis has become a leading commercial city of the southern states; its trade in cotton, lumber, groceries, mules and horses is especially large.
Chickasaw Bluffs were named from the Chickasaw Indians, who were in possession when white men first came to the vicinity. Late in the 17th century the French built a fort on the site of Memphis, and during most of the 18th century this site was held either by the French or the Spanish. In 1797 it passed into the possession of the United States.
By a treaty of the 19th of October 1818, negotiated by General Andrew Jackson and General Isaac Shelby, the Chickasaws ceded all their claims east of the Mississippi, and early in 1819 Memphis was laid out in accordance with an agreement entered into by John Overton (1766-1833), Andrew Jackson and James Winchester (1752-1826), the proprietors of the land.
Its name was suggested from the similarity of its situation on the Mississippi to that of the Egyptian city on the Nile.
Memphis was incorporated as a town in 1827, and in 1849 was chartered as a city. Near Memphis, on the 6th of June 1862, a Union fleet of 9 vessels and 68 guns, under Commander Charles Henry Davis (1807-77), defeated a Confederate fleet of 8 vessels and 28 guns under Commander J. E. Montgomery after a contest of little more than one hour, three of the Confederate vessels being destroyed and four of them captured the city was then in possession of the Union forces. In August 1864, however, a Confederate force under General Nathaniel Bedford Forrest, who hailed from Chapel Hill, Tennessee 128 miles away, raided it and captured several hundred prisoners.
The decrease of population between 1870 and 1880 was due to the ravages of yellow fever in 1873, 1878 and 1879. The epidemic of 1873 resulted in over two thousand deaths, and that of 1878 in a total of 5150, of whom 4250 were whites and 900 Negroes. At the return of the fever in 1879 better care and strict quarantine arrangements prevailed, but there were 497 deaths. During the epidemics of 1878 and 1879 fully two-thirds of the population fled from the city, many of whom died of the fever at other places, and a still larger number did not return.
In 1891 a new city charter was, obtained, and in 1907 the “Houston plan” ) was adopted for Memphis by the state legislature. The act, however, was declared unconstitutional by the state supreme court, on the ground that it would force elected officers out of office before the expiration of their constitutional terms; and in 1909 a new charter on the Houston plan was adopted by the legislature, to become effective on the 1st of January 1910, providing for a government by five commissioners, each having charge of a separate department.

On October 13, a group of hundreds of people gathered to flee their native Honduras in a caravan headed toward the United States. That caravan quickly swelled to approximately 7,000 Central American immigrants as it passed north through Guatemala.
President Donald Trump has called the approaching group a “national emergency,” vowed to cut tens of millions of dollars in aid to three Central American countries, and will possibly cancel a recent trade deal with Mexico if the caravan isn’t stopped before it reaches the U.S.
“The United States has strongly informed the President of Honduras that if the large Caravan of people heading to the U.S. is not stopped and brought back to Honduras, no more money or aid will be given to Honduras, effective immediately,” he said on Twitter.
The chart below is for the picture of the caravaners on Octber 16th 2018 from the Atlantic Monthly that James Russell Lowell founded in 1858. I made the chart when I saw they were in Hidalgo, Mexico and remembered the Asteroid Hidalgo named in honour of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, (born May 8, 1753, Corralejo, near Guanajuato, Mexico—died July 30, 1811, Chihuahua), a Roman Catholic priest and revolutionary leader. Father Hidalgo y Costilla is considered the father of Mexican Independence from Spain.
The asteroid is not named after the horse in the movie Hidalgo set in Saudi Arabia, though it could work as a good proxy for the stallion. The city Hidalgo is in east-central Mexico outside of the capital Mexico City, see the map from Britannica below.
The chart though is not set for the outset but the photograph. It has a preponderance in the eleventh house a house of brotherhood and good wishes. In this chart Scorpio, creative imagination is ruling it perhaps suggesting political connections and revolution. It set out from left Honduras on Christopher Columbus Day, Friday, October 12th. They are covering 20 miles per day by foot so in a few weeks to reach Matamoros, Mexico on the eastern end of the US-Mexico border across from Brownsville, Texas, about 1000 miles away or 50 more days of travelling. At that rate they will the border around December 1 — see the transit biwheel below.
the current aspects
Venus is opposite Uranus in the fifth of enterprise and children and the point focus is Mars in the second house of Aquarius. The chart has an eccentric fire grand trine of the North Node in Leo, the Ascendant in Sagitarrius and Part of Fortune in Aries — it would seem safe to say that the Caravaners mean business.
There is also a Grand Cross, Pluto to asteroid Hidalgo to the Sun and the seat of the President that is opposed by Uranus. This highlights a novel method of unseating an United States President by foreign powers. With the Ascendant at 21 Sagittarius “labour unrest” as the symbol of mankind’s universal spirit and realization that property and national boundaries are fake that need to be explored and reset. The ascendant is squared by the Asteroid Mexico but trine by Asteroid George.
We have rectified Mrs. Trump from 12 noon to 10:08 AM giving her a 13 Aquarius ascendant. Looking at her natal and current transits, we can see that there is a lot of social pressure for her divorce request — this is most likely her own family who are not Trump supporters — see the strong second house activity quincunx her Saturn in the seventh — who are openly using their “fears” for her safety after last month’s “arsenic” scare to destroy her family. Her native tenth house is trine this, and being a bit of an opportunist, she takes their comments to heart.
It is rather odd that a woman with 5 children has nothing in her fourth house, but plenty in the tenth. Another striking thing is her native Mars in Leo is opposite her ascendant with the point focus in the ninth at Libra in Scorpio highlighting how she weaponizes her faith and maternal duty.
The chart below shows this clearly in pink as it is just hers alone, and also highlights her Cardinal Cosmic Cross in the fixed houses telling us that when she makes up her mind, she does not change it and she really does believe that her life and those of her children are at risk as the Moon is in her natural second that the transits are amplifying.
All of this makes us wonder about the perfect timiing of the attack as it seems to have shown up at the right time in her life when she was also the unhappiest. We wish her and the children the best.. You can download the natal only Vanessa Trump here.
The city council had narrowly voted to remove General Lee’s statue on the grounds that he was a traitor to the USA, though President Lincoln had said shortly before his assassination he did not want such rancor to occur. But Lincoln could have never known the rallying points that Confederate statues and flags would becomes for various racists groups after his April 185 assassination.
The Charlottesville debacle was a case in point, several white nationalist groups petitioned the city for a protest march against that the statue’s removal for August 12, Saturday. At 8 pm EDT, when the rally was over , Richard Spencer a leader extreme right nationalist group, scheduled to be a speaker at their convention held on the same grounds at Emancipation Park.
Things got to a frenzied environments and counter protestors showed up the next day. They did not have a permit, but by the afternoon , James Alex Fields Jr. drove his Dodge Challenger through a crowd of counter-protesters killing Heather Heyer that lead to Fields’ also getting charged with a Federal Hate Crime. Also killed during the protests were two Virginia State troopers.
I will be tracing the history of slavery/racism in America using several horoscopes of key events, such as: The Compromise of 1850; the attack on FortSumter; the Civil Rights Act of 1964; the Sibly Declaration of Independence, the Missouri Compromise and Nat Turner’s Rebellion.
I hope using astrology that the events in Charlottesville on August were part of the larger picture that began hundreds of years ago, perhaps as far back as march 1620 when the Dutch brought 20 Africans ashore at Jamestown, Virginia. ( I will not cite this chart because I do not have the exact day, but I will advance something that is possible.)
Charlottesville Riot Chart ( timed for Heather Myers murder)
The key chart features of the chart below is that one is it a Splash Mundane Chart showing that strong bias. Indeed this was one secular group against another, pitted as always against each other. It has a Cardinal Cosmic Cross showing that in this scenario action, and violent action with Jupiter opposite Uranus and then Venus in Scorpio (Heather herself) pitted against the Martial Pluto in the Second — his resource being the metallic automobile.
The astrological picture of the events in Charlottesville, is deadly and vicious. Neither side will give way and with the other opposition sextile works like a barricade of Neptune-Mercury where each group believes that they are right. Both are wrong though when blood is shed, but it seems on this topic that has been the historical norm.
The Missouri Compromise, a missed opportunity
The Missouri Territory petitioned Congress in 1818 for admission to the Union as a state. The next year an amendment to Missouri’s admission was proposed to ban slavery in the new state. This ignited a political convulsion. The Southern States were adamant that Missouri be a slave state while the free states wanted to ban slavery there. A Congressional crisis ensued over which way the balance of political power would move.
The issue of slavery unresolved by the founders had come back to haunt the republic. The day was saved by the “great pacificator”, Henry Clay when he successfully negotiated a compromise on March 3, 1820, that would admit Maine as a free state and let Missouri enter as a slave state.
This compromise preserved the balance of power as before, but was not real solution to the problem; it just postponed the inevitable showdown for another generation. If an astrologer had been present ( and had known about Neptune which had not yet been discovered) he or she would have advised government leaders that the “times were changing.”
“The issues debated and the charges leveled, from 1819 to 1821 were, however, far more than passing interest. Once resurgent southern slavery had been attacked and defended as directly as it had been during the Missouri crisis, it would prove impossible to restore completely any fiction of sectional amicability, either in Washington or around the nation…Clay’s brokered bargain brought national political peace, but the Missouri crisis hardened northern and southern positions on slavery…”
A Slave Rebellion on August 21 1821
Nat Turner was a slave in rural Southampton County Virginia. He was a sometime Baptist minister and apparently a mystic as he was inspired to instigate the insurrection by his mystical visions. The insurrection in military terms was of no importance as it was over in about 48 hours and there were not more than 60 slaves involved in the enterprise.
On August 21, 1821, at about 2:00 AM Turner and six other slaves entered the home of his master and killed the entire family, then they went from house to house killing whites, fifty-five were killed. Turner and his group mounted on horseback then road toward the town of Jerusalem but were intercepted by a band of white militia who confronted the killers and scattered them. Turner escaped and was on the run until the end of October when he was captured.
The insurrection spread panic throughout the South as many feared that more violence would break out. White mobs attacked and lynched many blacks. Southern newspapers printed stories accusing Northerners of being behind the disturbance. Tensions in Southern and Northern relations increased. The insurrection did help to puncture the Southern myth that their slaves were really quite content with their lot, or perhaps just to servile to initiate an armed revolt.
The Compromise of 1850
The 31st Congress convened on December 3, 1849 and on January 29, 1850 Henry Clay, Senator from Kentucky, gave a speech calling for a compromise on the many divisive issues facing the Union. A fear was emerging that if the Congress passed strong legislation curbing the extension of slavery, the Southern states might withdraw from the Union.
The Compromise of 1850 was proposed by Clay as a series of five measures designed to please everyone, at least a little, and resolve the crisis. California was to be admitted as a free state; Texas received financial compensation for giving up its claims for lands west of the Rio Grande, the slave trade was abolished in Washington D.C.; in return the Southerners got the Fugitive Slave Law.
The Fugitive Slave Act, passed as one part of the 1850 Compromise, was the only component of the Compromise package that continued to inflame sectional tension after 1850. The Act, as passed, was a revised and strengthened version of one enacted in 1793; it gave slaveholders almost free rein to chase down and capture slaves anywhere in the country, and further, required citizens to join in the pursuit of slaves. Harboring run-away slaves, was a felony.
Uncle Tom’s Cabin is Published
Uncle Tom’s Cabin, first published as a series of forty installments, the fist issue appearing June 5, 1851, was high on the list of contributing factors leading to the civil war. It appeared in book form March 20, 1852 almost 230 years after the first Africans had arrived in Jamestown. It was translated into all the major languages and was second only to the Bible in number of copies printed.
Repeal of the Missouri Compromise
Democrat Sen. Stephen A. Douglas, pro of Illinois sponsored the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854 allowing for the the territorial organization of Kansas and Nebraska under the principle of popular sovereignty; this had been been applied to New Mexico and Utah in the Compromise of 1850, so he based his bill on that precedence. This action became a fire keg of controversy because Douglas proposed creating two territories — Kansas and Nebraska–and repealing the Missouri Compromise line.
The question of whether the territories would be slave or free would be left to the settlers under Douglas’s principle of popular sovereignty..The Republican Party rose to the challenge and became for the first time a viable political organization opposed to the expansion of slavery into the territories. The Act also repealed the provision of the Missouri compromise that prohibited in the Louisiana Purchase territories north of latitude 36 degrees 30 minutes the same that the Great Eclipse crossed so that the territories, both north of that point, could make their own decision.
The Civil War
The Confederates Fire on Fort Sumter
The next great historical point happened on April 9, 1861 when President Jefferson Davis of the Confederate Sates of America, instructed General Beauregard to send demands to Major Anderson, commander of federal forces at Fort Sumter, to surrender forthwith. Major Anderson rejected the ultimatum.
On April 12, 1861 at 4:30 AM, General Beauregard ordered his artillery to open fires on the fort. Federal artillery returned fire and the battle raged on until the Union forces ran out of ammunition on the afternoon of April 13 . It was the start teenager Neptune in Martial Aries.
Civil rights law is enacted a hundred years later
President John F. Kennedy in his civil rights speech of June 11, 1963, asked for legislation “giving all Americans the right to be served in facilities which are open to the public—hotels, restaurants, theaters, retail stores, and similar establishments”, as well as “greater protection for the right to vote”.
This legislation reasserted the Civil Rights act of 1875 that had forbid discrimination in hotels, trains, and other public spaces but has been deemed unconstitutional in an 1883 supreme court ruling :
“The XIVth Amendment is prohibitory upon the States and the legislation authorized by Congress for enforcing it is not direct legislation on the matters respecting which the States are prohibited from making or enforcing certain laws, or doing certain acts, but it is corrective legislation, such as may be necessary or proper for counteracting and redressing the effect of such laws or acts.
“The XIIIth Amendment relates to slavery and involuntary servitude (which it abolishes); … yet such legislative power extends only to the subject of slavery and its incidents; and the denial of equal accommodations in inns, public conveyances and places of public amusement (which is forbidden by the sections in question), imposes no badge of slavery or involuntary servitude upon the party, but at most, infringes rights which are protected from State aggression by the XIVth Amendment.”
On July 2, 1964 President Lyndon Johnson signed at the White House the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
When Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 it was during the conjunction of Uranus and Pluto opposing Saturn with Mars as the focal planet in a T Cross pattern. and Neptune is the focal determinator in the chart because it is a singleton in the southern hemisphere.
The Neptunian Obligation
Marc Edmund Jones writes in his Professional Astrology XXII,:
In the Sabian system the outermost planets, Uranus and Neptune. are not ever considered as ruling signs (for logical reasons)…but when it is a focal determinator, a singleton in a hemisphere, it has two purposes. The first of which is to address the soul and the second to sustain the physical existence of the man.
Neptune then becomes the Jungian archetype of the oppressed, enslaved, and dispossessed.
Neptune is in Pisces now. It entered Pisces in February, 2015 and will not exit the sign until March of 2025, As a ‘generational planet’, it aligned with the Hegelian notion of “zeitgeist” of the times. When Neptune is in Pisces, the Past meets the Future, often violently and as Pisces is a sign of culmination, one could say that “all the chickens come home to roost in Pisces”.
The 12 Signs of the Zodiac are essentially 6 pairs of polarities. Hence, Pisces and Virgo are a polarity. This means that what is conscious, objective, in one sign is experiences the characteristic of the opposite sign unconsciously, that is as its shadow.
A key feature of the USA Declaration of Independence Chart
There are, and have been many different versions of the USA chart. For many years it was the Gemini ascendant chart that was widely used , in recent years the so-called Sibly Chart with a 12 Sagittarius 20 Ascendant has risen in popularity.
I have done considerable research on a July 2, 1776, @ 11:11 AM chart that features a 1 Libra ascendant. This chart was inspired by John Adams diaries/
It is essentially immaterial what time of day one uses for the Declaration ofIndependence chart, the placements of the planets do not change much. I have always been interested in Neptune in the USA chart, perhaps because Neptune in my chart is in an exact conjunction to it at 22 Virgo 25. Further Mars makes a 2 degree square to Neptune in the USA chart. This is the closest square in the chart, and according to the Sabian Scheme this a primary key to interpreting the chart. Jones writes in “The Counseling Manual in Astrology: “indicates the single greatest challenge to the native in everyday affairs”. Additionally Jones says the astrologer should note which of the two planets must move forward to complete the aspect, it is the initiation/stimulating actor, while the other is carries out and expresses the action.
So, what does the close Mars, applying to Neptune mean for America, according to the astrology? In order to think about this question we need to get a firm understanding of what the two planets symbolize/represent. Mars’s nature is unambiguous, after all aren’t men from Mars, and women from Venus? Neptune is the very slippery one, it could be characterized as the archetype of ambiguity.
Neptune afflictions lead to military disasters
America since WWII has been engaged in almost continuous military misadventures around the globe. Beginning with the so-called ‘police action’ in Korean declared by President Truman. This was a war that probably should not have happened if some skillful diplomatic negotiations had of taken place after the WWII. So, there was a war on the Korean Peninsula, thousands of men died, but with no results, except a stalemate – no resolution, only a tenuous truce that stopped the conflict. But, now a nuclear armed North Korea threatens to blow us and others off the map. Other wars in other times have been just as futile – the Vietnam War, Afghanistan, Iraq and many smaller military actions among them.
Martin Luther King Jr. during last days on earth before he was assassinated began to speak out against the Vietnam War. He wisely and correctly spoke about the connection between racism/poverty and war. It is the poor and people of color who file most of the uniforms and fight in the foreign wars.
Neptune in the 10th House is a representation the Executive Branch’s exploitation of race and economic to further its objectives. The Sabian Symbol for Neptune at the 23rd degree of Virgo is: an animal trainer. The image of a person using a whip to control an animal, the lion or tiger comes to mind, so there’s nothing vague, obscure or hard to understand in it.
In an individual’s horoscope the accentuation of this symbol would been indicative of a need for strong self-discipline to tame vital energies. To get into a cage with a lion or tiger takes a lot of courage, and to survive there one must be very alert to the slightest signals, moves from the animal, and be able to read these and possess the necessary self control to adroitly use the chair, or whip or baton to effectively put the animal through the movements one wants.
This symbol when applied in the chart of a nation will of course manifest in a somewhat different way than it does in an individual horoscope. How does Neptune in Virgo in the 10th House on the degree symbolized by the animal trainer reveal itself? How do our President’s typically act? (The 10th House is the place of the Chief Executive, the President) I think that the image of an animal trainer is a rather apt one. I imagine it could be like getting into a cage filled with all sorts of people who each want something from you. You have noticed that how fast past Presidents have aged while in office.
Neptune, manifesting in a negative way in the USA chart has already been touched on as leading us into unnecessary wars. I believe that it also tends to over-glamorize the office which leads people to the see the president as some sort of superman, that can right all wrongs, and even “make America great again”. But, of course, things never go as well as we expect, so the president is an easy scape-goat for all the bad things. No wonder the men who have served in the office have quickly turned gray. Long range planning and organizational efficiency suffer under the influence of Neptune, consequently America tends to lurch from misadventure to another, furiouslyputting out fires” and spinning its wheels.
USA Chart and Charlottesville Riot Bi-Wheel
What we are looking for here are the significant planet connections, particularly those that form recognizable patterns. It is quite obvious there is one. A T Cross formed by transiting Saturn and Mars aspecting the USA Neptune and Mars.
What does this suggest? I think that after a rather thorough examination of Neptune and Mars in the USA chart and the fact these are being strongly aspected by transiting Saturn, that something significant appears to be approaching. It is notable that Neptune is now at 13 Pisces, and applying in opposition to the USA Neptune, and a square Mars. This may indicate that ‘conditions’ are gathering strength, building toward the Spring of 2021 when the Neptune to Neptune opposition becomes exact.
DJT announces in speech an escalation in Afghanistan War
Last night, August 21, President Trump announced a new policy for the Afghanistan conflict, as we are in 15th year of that misbegotten war. There is a old saying that Afghanistan is the graveyard of nations, that was definitely true for the now defunct USSR. America, is of course, exceptional ( the myth is called “American Exceptionalism” ), so we assume that we, the nation, is especially blessed by the Almighty in whatever misguided action we have a knee-jerk impulse to take.
The Charlottesville event chart, while it is timed particularly for that event, and we are using it to try to predict where we are, and where things are going in race relations, the chart also relates to general conditions. Conditions which don’t look good at all, according to the astrology.
An additional dark omen sticks up its ugly head when we note that the Great Eclipse of Monday hit very close to DJTs Mars and Ascendant. This aspect does not bode well for prospects of a return of peace and harmony, in the Nation. Mars is inherently an agitator, an aggressor, but it can also be a defender, protector, when used in a positive way. In trying to predict something we must, and should, look at past records, past behavior, and given our observation of DJT’s past behavior, the future looks anything but peaceful. DJT throughout his life as habitually “led with his Mars”, it is a sure bet that he will continue to do so, after all, it has always worked for him.
A Quad Wheel -USA-Center – Firing on Fort Sumter – Civil Rights Act 1964 – Charlottesville
It is fascinating to plot the transit around the wheel of Neptune as it triggers significant events in America’s experience of slavery and race relations.
I would have liked to have a larger wheel that the Quad Wheel because there are other important charts related to slavery/civil rights could have been displayed, such as the 13th Amendment of 1865, (abolished slavery. )In the Quad Wheel the 3rd & 9th Houses with Virgo and Pisces have been shaded in. You can readily see there is a heavy population of planets in that area, which confirms my thesis that these two sings are significant in matters of race relations.
The events in Charlottesville have an astrological connection with the important historical events related to slavery and race in this country and since the election of Mr. Trump our rose-colored glasses have been ripped from our eyes as we note that the election of the first black man to the office of President did not signal that America had ‘come of age’ but that it triggered racial feelings that had laid dormant for a time. Hence the rise of DJ Trump.
Concluding comments with a larger view
The cycles of Uranus & Pluto are highly significant in understanding historical eras. Richard Tarnas in his book “Cosmos and Psyche” writes that the critical alignment periods ( conjunction, squares and opposition) of these two planets correlates with: “the call for freedom but also the revelation of nature, intellectual awakening but also the eruption of feeling and instinct, radical change but also heightened Eros, creative innovation and experiment but also destructive upheaval”.
We are now in the waning phase of the opening square of the Uranus, Pluto cycle that began with the conjunction at 17 Virgo 07 on October 9, 1965, There was a subsequent conjunction in April 6, 1966 at 16 Virgo 25; these two degrees consequently provide the “seed symbols” for this present cycle that will end with a conjunction in 2104 at 7 Taurus. The next critical alignment, the opposition, will occur in early 2047.
These dates are a long way off but knowing these does help to put current events in a larger context and perhaps help in understanding what ‘it all means’. Our immediate challenge is in dealing with the next 7 -9 year period that will highlighted the three outer planets -Uranus, Neptune and Pluto change of sign:
Pluto enter Aquarius in January 2024;
Neptune will enter Aries in March 2025,
and Uranus will enter Gemini in April 2026.
Outer planet ingresses invariably correlate with major changes.
We constantly vet our posts for accuracy. This one was updated on June 29, 2018.
The astrologer’s nemesis is often ‘time’, if it is not correct then the matter of the chart at hand will not be satisfactorily understood or acted on. The likelihood of an error increases sharply when the astrologer is called upon to set up charts in unfamiliar territory. This is what happened to me in my last posting on this subject of the missile attack on Syria. I got the time wrong. Here is the correct chart, I promise.
I think the most productive way to look at this chart is with the question” what could be the consequences of this attack?” We admit the attack could not have been predicted using conventional astrology, so let’s look at the chart for the indicators of this event, and then try to project what the ramifications of the attack could be and whether this is just the first volley in a long-term military engagement?
What we notice immediately is Mars exactly conjunct the IC ( 4th house)of the wheel. Thus the 4th House , ‘the home’, ‘the homeland’, is directly under the “beams of Mars” ( at this point on the Earth’s surface). Mars will pass this point every 24 hours of course so this fact alone is not significant. We need connections for the pot to boil. We find these in several places: Mars is exactly ( 1 degree orb) square to the Ascendant @ 19 Aquarius 19; Mars is trine Pluto which square to Jupiter, which is quincunx to Mars; the aspect circuit thence returns to Mars.
This configuration of Mars, Ascendant , Pluto and Jupiter could be conceived of as a sort of “critical mass”, which, when the Moon comes into view, that is forms a square with Mars, the event is triggered. This is how I imagine it happening, perhaps you see other things going on here.
Now to the question of “what happens next, is the U.S. in for a major military engagement?”
It is not a good omen that Aquarius is the rising sign, because it is ruled by Saturn. Saturn situations and conditions for solid, chronic, and protracted. Saturn is in the 11th House. This is place that Saturn likes and will want to stay a long time. It is house of our hopes and wishes, with Saturn here these will not be optimistic. Saturn is also part of a rather tight grand trine with Moon and Uranus. Grand trines are aspect patterns of momentum, which means that once things start rolling it is hard to stop them, and this is a Fire grand trine, hence it will have an abundance of energy it keep it fired up and moving.
It appears that the “war that has really never ended” will resume and we will “have the same thing, but just a little different”.
Each spring on March 20 or 21 the Sun moves (ingresses) into the sign Aries, this is the Vernal Equinox. The above wheel is the chart for this event set at Washington, D.C. Vernal Equinox charts set for the capitals of countries are a valuable tools that have been used by astrologers for many ages to evaluate the coming year’s prospects for nations. Let’s look at some of the notable features of this chart to see what may be in store for America during the next 12 months.
Astrologers always give particular attention to the sign and degree of the Ascendant, in this chart, 10 Pisces 18 ( the 11th degree of Pisces) is rising. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is: “
Men seeking illumination” – a symbol of men as dramatized in some form of apostolic succession, or a living tradition of spiritual achievement. The divine spirit is fundamentally a matrix of itself, since its continuance depends on its unswerving maintenance of the purity in motive and expression which it has contributed to the humanity it has created in its own image.
A keyword is: DEDICATION, in a positive indication this is indicative of high accomplishment in an effective alignment with ultimate reality, but in a negative indication reveals a base, feckless hypocrisy masquerading as someone or something of value and integrity.
The presence of Neptune at 12 Pisces 24, only a couple of degrees away for the Ascendant, is also clearly significant, especially in view of the the spiritual connotations of the degree symbol. The traditional ruler of Pisces is Jupiter, ( and also Neptune, according to modern astrological lore). Pisces is found at the 10th house in this chart, the place of authority and public manifestation and 19 Sagittarius 13 is the sign/degree of the MC ( midheaven). Jupiter is then the ruler of both of the important angles of this chart — the Ascendant and Midheaven, indicating a potentially momentous year.
The Sabian Degree Symbol for the 20th degree of Sagittarius is:
“Men cutting through ice”- a symbol that suggests the capacity with which people can organize the resources and processes of nature for the benefit of the community at large. When expressed in a positive manner there is an exceptional capacity for overcoming obstacles and capitalizing on every opportunity, but, negatively, there is a lack of perspective and unnecessary acceptance of hardship.
A Grand Cosmic Cross
The most significant planetary pattern is a grand cross made up of Jupiter opposing Mercury & Uranus and Pluto at the focal point of the pattern. The newly discovered Eris (keyword word is disruption) is near Uranus, and the asteroid Vesta completes the fourth leg of the cross. (see the horoscope at the beginning of this article)
Finally, I want call your attention to in the horoscope, the presence of Saturn and the Moon in an almost exact conjunction in the Sagittarius in the 10th. The 10th house from a mundane astrological perspective represents the Executive Branch of the government, hence, the President. The grand cross pattern is augmented by a wide sextile from Jupiter to Saturn & Moon and a trine from Uranus, creating a Kite Configuration.
So, you may ask, “what does this all mean?”
The houses of the chart tell us about the “circumstances” of an issue or situation but the grand cross pattern forms the fundamental structure of the chart, activating the 2nd, 11th, 8th and 5th houses of the chart. The accentuation of the 5th is supplementary to this main action because it is an asteroid not a planet. The 2nd & 8th house axis relates to material issues – the 2nd house highlights survival: the productions that are basic in life, food, water, shelter and mundanely the financial institutions of a nation and its economy. At a deeper level this house relates to the fundamental social values of a society; what the people “hold dear” like money — one of the cornerstones of what people never discuss (the other two are religion and sex).
Across from the 2nd House lies the 8th broadly considered to be not a very nice place to be because it is associated with “death”, though that has been retermed “transformation”& “rebirth”, and most positively as where we find “other peoples (ones partners, relations) money”. Jupiter is located here suggesting that during the year the nation may face a monetary crisis or a monetary transformation — taxes are on the Congressional and more imporantly the Presidential agenda.
Looking at the 11th house – the government requires many institutional organizations in order to govern, among the most important is the Congress ( legislatures, generally), and civil service workers, local officials. etc. This is the house of friends, hopes and wishes, thus it may reflect the general mood of the people -are they optimistic or depressed? This is place to find other nations that are friendly to ones country. Pluto here is indicative a rather over-stressed population, that is looking for a “power” to save them, a Superman that comes to their aid. It is rather ominous that the President’s “right-hand man”, Mr. Bannon is on record as saying that the “government institutions, agencies should be blown up!” Pluto sitting here in the 11th may just give him the opportunity to do just that or this more personal? It’s hard to know which at this point.
As the World turns
In summary: Material issues, finances, taxes, budgets will be on the “front burner” this year, as will the Congress, which, since Pluto is its planetary indicator, will appear to hold most of the power, but internal conflict between its members will be intense, perhaps violent, no holds barred conflict, as the representatives of the multitude of interest groups and constituencies demand their “piece of the pie”.
With Saturn and the Moon in the Sagittarian 10th, also the house of the President , in positive aspect to the grand cross, the President may if he so chooses serve as a needed arbiter of the legislative struggles and pull things together; or, take the negative path, and play the dictator/despot (Saturn) card and try to gain advantage for himself from the situation.
I find that the Sabian symbols highlighted in this chart are very suggestive of the potentialities that are offered this astrological year for the country: Neptune is “men seeking illumination” at our threshold while Saturn a sextile away gets the symbols of “seagulls flying around a ship in the expectation of food”. The two make a yod that terminates at Vesta (keyword Philosophy) in the Fifth House of Cancer and begs the question: How will we address these issues? What is the administration, and Congress’s philosophy towards the untamable energies that have developed a domesticated dependence upon the by-products of government?¹ Will we acknowledge them or will we ignore it — tied up as we are in a our personal emotional turmoil, ignorance and greed? We have the next nine months to find out.

On the download chart, the Equatorial Ascendant is also the Aries Point ( 17.28 Pisces) for the chart. It has the symbol of “in a gigantic tent, villagers witness a spectacular performance,” with a keyword of “public self-dramatization.”
Martha (Sunny) von Bülow, was an American heiress who first married Austrian playboy prince and then to a Danish-born man-about-society who was twice tried on charges of attempting to murder her, died on December 6th, 2008 on a Saturday at a nursing home in Manhattan. Mrs. von Bülow, who was 76, had been in a coma for nearly 28 years.
Maureen Connelly, a spokeswoman for the family, confirmed the death. Mrs. von Bülow’s three children said in a statement that they “were blessed to have an extraordinary loving and caring mother.” The cause pulmonary arrest, Ms. Connelly said. Her was 27 years, 11 months and 15 days after she was found unconscious on the floor of her bathroom in her mansion in Newport, R.I., on Dec. 21, 1980.
In her long, silent years at the Milstein Building at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia hospital, and then at a nursing home on the Upper East Side, doctors said Mrs. von Bülow never showed any signs of brain activity. She was fed through a tube in her stomach. There were always fresh flowers in her room, and photographs of her children and grandchildren sat on a bedside table. She was attended by private nurses, and her room, for a while at least, was guarded by private security.
She is survived by her daughters, Annie-Laurie von Auersperg Kneissl Isham and Cosima Pavoncelli; her son, Alexander (Ala) von Auersperg; and nine grandchildren.
In his first trial, in Newport in 1982, Mr. von Bülow was found guilty of twice trying to kill his wife and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He appealed and posted a $1 million bond believed to have been put up by his friend J. Paul Getty Jr., the oil tycoon.Sunny von Bülow in 1976, four years before she entered a coma that led to two trials for her second husband, Claus von Bülow.
The first appeal was guided by Alan M. Dershowitz, the Harvard law professor who asserted that information had not been made available to the defense, and there had been no search warrant when Maria Schrallhammer, Mrs. von Bülow’s longtime maid, confiscated the pills from the black bag that belonged to Mr. von Bulow. So true to form, he did this later in the famous O.J. Simpson case, Dersh got Mr. von Bulow off on a technicality.
In reality, the contents of the black bag were given by the maid to Mrs. von Bulow’s daughter Ala, who passed to the family physician for chemical analysis. A lab determined them to be Seconal and a paste form of Valium. As the seizure was illegal, the lab report was inadmissible as evidence.
On Dec. 21, 1980, Mrs. von Bülow was again found unconscious and taken to Newport Hospital. Shortly afterward, an investigator working on behalf of the two older children searched the house and found a black bag said to contain three hypodermic needles, one with traces of a sedative, again, and insulin. Another trial and another acquittal; Sunny in the meantime lingered on in a comatose state.
Boo Koo Bucks
Mrs. von Bülow, who had inherited $75 million, was depicted by the defense as a quiet woman who drowned her insecurities in alcohol and was familiar with drugs. The von Auersperg children, backed by Ms. Schrallhammer, claimed that Mrs. von Bülow needed as little as two drinks to appear that she had had too much.
The prosecution put Alexandra Isles, a socialite and former actress who had been Mr. von Bülow’s mistress, on the stand to admit that she had given Mr. von Bülow an ultimatum about dissolving his marriage. It was noted, too, that a divorce would have voided the $14 million that Mr. von Bülow would have inherited under his wife’s will and left him with a measly annual income of $120,000 from a trust. This would be about 1,000th of her total welcome.
Mr. von Bülow acknowledged that he and his wife had discussed divorce, but he denied that the issue was another woman. He initiated the talks, he said, because he wished to return to work and his wife did not agree. He had been working intermittingly as a stock broker.

The early Years
Mrs. von Bülow, the former Martha Sharp Crawford, was born in Manassas, Va., on Sept. 1, 1932, the only child of Annie-Laurie and George W. Crawford.
Originally nicknamed Choo-Choo because she was born in her father’s railway car but later called Sunny because of her disposition. She attended the Chapin School in Manhattan and St. Timothy’s School in Maryland, and had an elaborate debut in 1949.
She was 24 when she married Prince Alfred von Auersperg, a 20-year-old tennis pro at the private Schloss Mittersell in Austria. The couple settled in Munich and later in Kitzbühel, Austria. Anne-Laurie von Auersperg (known as Ala) was born in 1958 and Alexander the following year, June 13, 1959. The marriage ended in divorce in 1965. The princess had few interests in common with her husband, did not share his ardor for big-game hunting in Africa or his womanizing. She also missed the United States. The prince received $1 million and two houses in a settlement.
(In a twist of fate, Prince von Auersperg also went into an irreversible coma in 1983 after an automobile accident in Austria. He died in 1992.)
The year after her divorce, the princess married Claus von Bülow, whom she had met years earlier in London. He was originally neither a von nor a Bülow. His mother was divorced from his father, Svend Borberg, a playwright and drama critic who was convicted of collaborating with the Nazis by a Danish court after the war. He was sentenced to four years in prison, released after 18 months and died shortly after.
Claus grew up with his mother and maternal grandfather, Frits Bülow, a former minister of justice in Denmark and a successful businessman. Claus adopted the Bülow name and added “von” as a young adult.
At the time of his marriage, Mr. von Bülow was a senior aide to Mr. Getty.
The couple settled in an imposing Fifth Avenue apartment facing Central Park. A short time later, following the lead of her mother, Mrs. von Bülow acquired a Newport estate, Clarendon Court, a 23-room Georgian mansion on 10 acres overlooking the sea. Mrs. von Bülow had the huge lawn lowered 17 feet to improve the view of the ocean.
The house had been the setting for the 1956 musical “High Society,” starring Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and Bing Crosby. The property was sold in 1988 for $4.2 million; the same year, an auction of von Bülow furniture, paintings, porcelains and silver brought more than $11.5 million.
A daughter, Cosima, was born April 10, 1967, and the three siblings apparently got along well until their mother’s Marriage-Legacy aroused the suspicions of the von Auersperg children. Miss von Bülow supported her father during his trials and as a result was cut out of her maternal grandmother’s will.
When Mrs. Aitken died in 1984, Miss von Bülow filed suit claiming that family members had turned her grandmother against her. In a 1987 settlement, Mr. von Bülow renounced all his claims to his wife’s fortune in return for his daughter’s receiving a share of Mrs. Aitken’s estate, equal to those of her half sister and half brother.
Ms. Connelly, the family spokeswoman, said the three siblings, after a long period of estrangement, are “reconciling and moving forward together as a family, because that is what their mother would have wanted.” Anne-Laurie married Ralph Isham of New York, June 10, 1989.
After the trials, the von Auerspergs founded the Sunny von Bülow National Victim Advocacy Center, with headquarters in Fort Worth, Tex., and the Sunny von Bülow Coma and Head Trauma Research Foundation in New York.
Hollywood made the scandal the subject of the 1990 movie “Reversal of Fortune” with Glenn Close as Mrs. von Bülow and Jeremy Irons as Mr. von Bülow.
The author Dominick Dunne wrote about the case for Vanity Fair. He had known Mrs. von Bulow since she was a debutante. Dunne said she had been portrayed unfairly in the film as an emotionally frail alcoholic but that she was a “beautiful and shy” woman who “really did not like the social life, although she was associated with it.”
We have rectified Mrs. von Bulow’s chart to 04.25.Libra that has the symbol is a “woman teaching real inner knowledge,” the keyword affinity. It has the warning, and one which we believe Mrs. von Bulow should have heeded in “subtle attempts to dominate her environment.” She has Cardinal Grand Cross & a stellium of planets in the twelfth house suggesting both hidden enemies and a bond with large institutions. Her temperament type is a bucket with a Saturn handle, with no intercepted houses via the Koch layout.
That Saturn handle is at 16.44 Capricorn. It is also is part of her boomerang Yod (see the Aqua on the chart) as the inconjunct point between Pluto in Cancer and Mercury in Virgo (its Lord). It is an impressive set of aspects because the Yod shows how the ghoulish publicity about her health, all those planets in Virgo. The Saturn, in High Focus, as it is the turning point of her chart, whether it is part of the bucket’s handle, the apex Yod, or within the Grand Cross. Its symbol tells of a “girl surreptitiously bathing in the nude” suggesting furtive activity around her.
Part of her Fixed X-cross is a translation of light between Uranus and the Moon on the seventh-eighth house cusps as Mrs. von Bulow shifts emphasis in her life between the four points of institutions, home. Marriage-Legacy and limelight.
In the end…
Was Mrs. von Bulow murdered? Or was this negligence or perhaps even an attempt at suicide? We think that the answer lays in her Midheaven, a calculated point, and not an aspect. It has the symbol of a dark “archway and ten logs at the bottom,” that competence in handling life’s affairs, but with the warning of being in bondage to them. E.C. Chambers in book “Fixed Stars” cuts to the chase and says “Miserly.”
